Michael A. Howell, DPM, FACFAS

Dr. Howell is affiliated with ProMedica Foot & Ankle Clinic

Dr. Howell is a fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon specializing in comprehensive reconstruction of the foot and ankle. He is board certified in foot and reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS). Dr. Howell practices in Coldwater, Michigan and is affiliated with the ProMedica Foot and Ankle Clinic. Dr. Howell is proud to offer his expertise in care of the foot and ankle to individuals living in and around Branch County. When you schedule an appointment with Dr. Howell, you can be confident that he will tailor a treatment plan specific to your needs and work with you to find the best solution for your problem, whether it be conservative or surgical options.

Dr. Howell attended Michigan State University for his undergraduate studies, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in physiology, with a specialization in bioethics, humanities, and society. He went on to attend Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, in North Chicago, IL, where he earned his degree as a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. Subsequently, Dr. Howell completed his surgical residency at a level 1 trauma hospital, West Penn Hospital/Allegheny Health System in Pittsburgh, PA. During his time there, he was named chief resident among his colleagues. He then completed a year of fellowship training, specializing in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, total ankle replacements, and foot and ankle trauma, at Kalamazoo Foot & Ankle Specialists in Portage, MI.

Dr. Howell has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and has also contributed educational text as the author of various chapters in medical textbooks. In addition, he is a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and the American Podiatric Medical Association.

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Howell has many hobbies and interests. He enjoys spending quality time with his wife and children, which includes two daughters and a son, as well as his Wheaten Terrier, Maggie. As a Michigan State alum and native of the state, he is an avid sports fan, cheering for MSU football and basketball, the Detroit Tigers and Lions, as well as the Oakland Raiders. He enjoys playing tennis, golf, and skiing. Dr. Howell also loves traveling and taking family trips, preferably to a beach or somewhere warm. When spring rolls around, you can find him exercising his green thumb as he enjoys expanding his garden each year.
